Old car driving me crazy
April 5th, 2009While exploring a new area on my walk this morning I came across this old car hood in an isolated wooded area. I can’t identify the emblem to save me. The big, bulbous style of the hood reminds me of U.S. models built around 1950. I’ll be impressed if some car buff can identify it. Although, not as impressed as by the quality of chrome work on the knight head.

It’s off a Buick. The cross in one corner of the shield, the head of the buck in the other, go back at least as far as the middle 1930s, though this looks like a late 1940s example. (The three-shield version didn’t come along until the late 1950s.)

My first thought was Buick LaSalle, for no good reason, but couldn’t find anything with a search. Adri’s link is great.
I went back and pulled it for a souvenir.

I could not locate anything on the link, and I am more than likely wrong, but could it be a DeSoto? Man, that really dates me doesn’t it. Kind of looks like a D&S on the Logo to the left, but like I said, I am not sure.
Approaching mid sixties now, I have seen a lot of cars in my lifetime, old time cars, but Buick just doesn’t seem right to me. But like I said, “I could more than likely be wrong, more so, than right.”

One more thing, Desoto was a Spanish explorer and they wore the helmets that is pictured here, that too, lends me to think it might be a Desoto.
