When we rule the weather
November 16th, 2004We all know that if you don’t like Oklahoma’s weather, just wait awhile and it will change. Now we may not have to wait at all; we may be changing it at will.
An India-born, US-based scientist has proved that large-scale installation of windmills to replace conventional sources of energy may cause drastic local weather changes.
-
For the study, a wind farm consisting of an array of 10,000 turbines with rotor blades 50 metres long was set up in a 97 x 97 kilometre area in north-central Oklahoma.
-
During the course of the experiment, the turbines were seen to trap a cool nocturnal jet of air, present in the Great Plains in Oklahoma, that separated the cool moist air near the ground from the drier, warmer air above.
-
As a result of the warming and drying of surface air that occurred in the Great Plains, there could be weather impacts similar to the kinds of local atmospheric changes that occur with large-scale deforestation.
This is exciting science! God insists there is no free lunch when it comes to using energy. We must always get it from something else, and we don’t get it for nothing.
It’s not unreasonable to predict a near future where we begin to utilize the environmental impact from extracting, and then shifting, energy – whether it be from coal, oil, sun, wind or wave – to skillfully shape our weather phenomenon. In addition to the obvious use of improving crop production, the potential power in influencing rainfall over enemy countries could be more powerful than a nuclear arsenal in persuading rouge nations to fall in line with a New World Order.
The key term here is “skillfully shape our weather phenomenon”. But who among us doesn’t trust human intelligence to master the powers of the universe for good and evil?
