New laws say bigger is better

November 6th, 2004

Higher auto insurance rates and bigger marijuana pipes will be some of the results of state legislation going into effect earlier this month.

Minimum liability insurance required in Oklahoma is now 25-50-25; before, it was 10-20-10.

“I don’t think it’s going to be that noticeable; it’s usually not that much of a difference in price between 10-20-10 and 25-50-25, anyway,” said (Tahlequah insurance agent Ron) Meredith. “At the end of the year, they [the insurance companies] will send a notice to everyone telling them their benefits have been raised

I’ve already got increased coverage. But what I don’t understand is, if gambling is so good for something as crucial as education, why isn’t it good for everything else? What’s with this required insurance crap? Mandatory insurance simply takes away the right of Oklahoma drivers to gamble on the road. Either we’re for gambling, or we’re not. Which is it?

And Okies who like to smoke pot in cute little pipes will really be taking a big gamble now.

HB 1220 amends the state’s list of illegal drug paraphernalia to include “all hidden or novelty pipes,” and “any pipe that has a tobacco bowl or chamber of less than one-half (1/2) inch in diameter in which there is an detectable residue of any controlled dangerous substance as defined in this section or any other substances not legal for possession or use.”

So now it’s state law that dope smokers use only pipes that hold large amounts of illegal substances.
