Govt. funding now a gamble

November 6th, 2004

Even though I opposed the lottery, the saddest part about it is this:

Governor Brad Henry publicly thanked voters for approving the measure; saying it was the only way to save Oklahoma education.

If gambling is the only way to save education, what are the options for saving lower priority state budget items like roads and bridges, law enforcement, parks and environmental protection?

    Absolutely right!

I thought the purpose of taxes was to provide funding for the government. Now we have a ”voluntary tax” (debatable) for education.

However education is absolutely a neccessity for society and should be the last thing we cut and the first thing we fund by public taxation.

If the lottery is such a good thing for the citizens of Oklahoma, why don’t we take the entire state budget and buy lottery tickets in Texas?

Mike I totally agree. Do you think they will use money from the lottery to teach children not to play the lottery? I linked to this post here.
