Hate the troops? Drive 65

June 11th, 2008

Turns out that I’m becoming quite the leader around here when it comes to fuel efficient driving. When using one of the most effective gas saving techniques on Hwy 9 between Little Axe and Norman, you’d be surprised how many folks are lining up behind me in a show of support.

As shown by this U.S. Dept. of Energy graph, I’m saving anywhere from 7-23% by driving at 55mph; which equates to gasoline savings of up to almost $1 a gallon!

Plus, I’m supporting the troops, national security, and polar bears, all at the same time. Not to mention the good feeling I get when seeing people give me the “USA is #1 patriot salute” in the rear view mirror.

Our dependence upon oil, especially foreign oil, affects our economy and our national energy security.

Today, over half of the oil we use is imported (60%) and our dependence will increase as we use up domestic resources.

And I’m also heeding the call from our Commander in Chief.

The more sources of energy we have, the less influence any one of them, such as oil, has over the United States’ security and prosperity. – President George W. Bush, March 5, 2008

Disclosure – In order to offset the detrimental effects of fuel savings on Oklahoma’s economy, I drive as fast as possible to purchase lottery tickets every morning.

Ha, ha. Is that what the kids are calling it these days? Damn, a lot of people sure are patriotic. All this time, I thought they were merely flipping me off.
