Best Okie blogs of 2007
September 11th, 2007
Nominations for the 2007 Okie Blog Awards have been finalized and can be found here. I haven’t yet counted the total number of blogs nominated, but was glad to see some new names submitted in just about every category. And as always, a few blogs popped up in categories that may surprise you.
Congratulations to these great Oklahoma bloggers. Being nominated in this manner by their blogging peers shows their dedication and talent doesn’t go unnoticed.
Condolences to the blogs that were edged out. There was some tough competition.
Voting will be conducted over the next couple weeks, concluding on Sept. 26.
Thanks for playing.

Congrats to the nominees.

The blog that I nominated isn’t listed. Why?

Not all blogs nominated made the final nomination list.

2 okiefunks and no Mark Shannon. This ‘contest’ is trivial and meaningless!

Perhaps there are just too many conservative Okie blogs and not enough liberal ones.

If okiefunk is the only lib blog out there, then one is too many.

I dunno about the rest of you, but I would hate to live in a world where everyone always sounded like me.

There are more liberal blogs in the Oklahoma blog ring than conservative blogs by a good margin, the fact that a blog based solely on Bush Derangement Disorder (lies) could win last year says that the entire thing is skewed to the far extreme left.
The Okie blog awards are conducted by liberals, dominated by liberals and (shocking) won by liberals.
Unfortunately all of the “awards” in the world won’t make their lies into truth or their hatred into votes for Democrats. But it does make them feel important and authoritative.
Small fish in an even smaller pond… or in this case, glass bowl.

Obviously you take this stuff way too serious, Red.

Hey CG, my favorits list is full of blogs of all flavors, and I read as many as time allows – both lib and conserv. My point was that okiefunk is a pathetic example of a blog of any type, and it amazes me that anyone would consider it for anything positive. And Red, I could be wrong, but Mike does not appear to me to be driving left of the center line.

I do weave a lot.

“…conducted by liberals, dominated by liberals and (shocking) won by liberals.”
Geez. How did that right-of-center doofus ever win Best Overall last year?

I was wondering the exact same thing, Charles.
Ya know, I try to stay out of politics and I try to be nonconfrontational, but it sounds to me like someone is being way too serious on this issue. The Okie Blogger Awards are a way for Oklahoma bloggers to recognize and be recognized. Yes, the blogs themselves are all different in nature and we all have widely differing views on issues, but the awards themselves are – as far as I can tell – non-biased and well, just for fun. So, chill out and be nice.

I doubt that I will be able to attend the awards in person this year because of my work situation; but is there a possibility someone will be broadcasting it on the web? Even if I can’t be there in person, I would like to be able to listen in.

I don’t take them seriously at all, that was the point. I am however shocked that Okie Funk is a winner and again nominated for two categories (other than best fiction).
I invite all to stop by my blog where I challenge some of Okie Funk’s latests posts, debunk his claims and uncover just another liberal college professor teaching his leftist politics in the classroom.

Hi Red Stater,
Could you give an objective reason why you think Okiefunk.com is subpar?
I don’t always agree with Okiefunk.com (and have disagreed with quite a bit of passion on a few occasions — the Left is very diverse, just as the right is), but I will say that Kurt’s blog is well done.
He puts out a good steady amount of content on a regular basis (something I don’t manage to do much these days), he has a great blog design and layout, and I think he is articulate in making his points.
There are also some good conservative blogs out there (i.e. Batesline). I don’t agree with them either on many occasions but I can still appreciate them.

I looked over your blog, RedStater, and I must say that you are the master of the ad hominen attack.
Congratulations. You should be proud of yourself.

Branum, you got the blog description correct, but you messed up on the author.
1. dochoc is the epitome of ad hominem techniques. Even a cursory review of his posts
would demonstrate that he is only interested in personally blasting anybody who is not
100% in his playground. Innuendo, boring sloganism, and unsubstantiated accusations are
his favorite tools. He is basically extremely unimaginative and boring.
2. Have you ever seen a comment by anyone with a challenge to a statement or a different viewpoint? He appears to have the thin skin of a rotten peach.
3. He can’t seem to display his posts in chronological order. Many times, the first page contains items older than the stuff on following pages. Of course, to hear him brag, he is the last word in blog design and management.
4. There are consistently several days between any new postings.
These are my objective reasons why okiefunk is sub par. Mike beats the hell out of dochoc’s stuff in terms of timeliness, information, entertainment, and assess ability.

well said imok…
I guess as long as facts, truth and debate are not part of the criteria, okie funk is the best.
He teaches college students how to be the “perfect blogger” and hate Bush all in one easy lesson paid for with Oklahoma tax dollars. He sure doesn’t mind cashing that fatcat paycheck from the government that he hates with a passion.
