What, me bored?

August 14th, 2007

Some folks may have noticed that my blogging has suffered over the past few weeks. (Others have noticed it from the beginning.) And trust me when I say that “Nobody suffers more than me when I neglect YOU, my adoring public”. So let me get this off my chest.

You might think Okiedoke is all about me – my opinions, my ego, my arrogance. But it’s more than that. What really stimulates my urge to blog is boredom. Yep, I’m convinced that pure, unadulterated boredom is the driving force behind Okiedoke, and makes it the blog it is.

For the first three years of this blog I was able to fill many dull hours with the fun of creative writing. Though my job included long and irregular hours, it was the type of work that provided periods of monitoring, time that I used to also draft blog entries. A text editor was just one more small information source I had to deal with. It made the 6-7 day work weeks pass easier.

Then I retired last year. And I haven’t been bored since.

But there’s hope. Today is predicted to be the hottest day of the year with a Clean Air Smog Alert called for the nearby OKC metro. I could be stuck in the house this afternoon. And with my reading and movie watching almost caught up, I plan to be a little bored. In the meantime, me and Obi are going for a walk at the lake. Yeah, it’s at Dirtybird, but Obi and the granddaughter seem to like it alright.

Yeah, that photo contains all the attractive elements that I like to have in a picture of me; kids, dogs and nature.
