Gov. Henry, open the blinds

June 5th, 2007

Of all the bills before Oklahoma legislators this session, Senate Bill 1 is only now getting attention by the governor.

Henry says he is still reviewing the legislation and hasn’t made a decision on whether to sign it.

Come on gov! It’s not that complicated.

In a nut shell, the Taxpayer Transparency Act requires the state to establish a searchable website containing expenditures of “all appropriated or nonappropriated funds by a state entity from the State Treasury”. I admit I’m no lawyer, but even I know it’s got to be good. Just look whose against it:

The State Chamber wants the governor to veto a measure to create a searchable database of how state dollars are spent.

And why:

The business group says the law may spook investors who receive state tax credits.

That’s right! These cockroaches actually have the balls to complain about taxpayers being able to find out whose getting corporate welfare. It’s like they’re afraid of the light and feel they need to do their deeds in the shadows.

If there was any real justice in Oklahoma, State Chamber executives would’ve been arrested long ago for operating a bordello.

What’s the difference between the State Chamber and a sewage pit? … OK,OK, I’ll stop. But you get the idea.
