An Okie Woodstock

May 11th, 2007

I didn’t go to Woodstock in 1969, but I have been to a lot of outdoor concerts. One of my favorite outdoor venues was that of a Little Axe rancher who put a stage in a pecan grove and hosted some concerts during the early 1980’s. The concerts have long ended, but the stage remains.

While the outdoor concerts in Little Axe were nothing like Woodstock, there’s something about the atmosphere of an outdoor music festival that you just can’t get from inside a building. Which might explain the interest in this Oklahoma Centennial event.

ROCKLAHOMA BECOMES WORLDWIDE PHENOMENA

Ticket sales around the world are making Rocklahoma one of the most successful events of Oklahoma’s Centennial Celebration as ‘80’s rock fans will converge on the state from locations as far away as Japan, Australia and South Africa.

I’m not a huge fan of ’80’s rock myself, but if you are, this collection of 23 bands over three days is bound to please. And it won’t be quite as primitive as Woodstock, when people just crashed anywhere they could.

# Primitive Camping ( No electricity or water hookups )
# Campsites measure 20′ X 40′ – One sleeping unit per site

But for all you ’80’s rock fans in your forties, don’t fret…

# Campground quiet time is 2:30 a.m.
# Automated teller machines are located on-site.
