Reagan conservatism dying

April 24th, 2006

Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor ruled against Congress and the Bush administration while visiting Oklahoma City last week.

… saying that in her lifetime she’s never seen so many attempts to strip courts of their power.

She says without a proper judicial branch to check government power and overturn unconstitutional laws, a democracy can crumble into a dictatorship.

O’Connor was appointed to the Supreme Court by an old fashioned conservative, President Ronald Reagan. Reagan was popular back in the days when Americans thought a democratic constitutional republic was better than an oligarchy.
