Religion comes naturally

February 7th, 2006

In case you need a reminder of the diverse beauty of nature…

I really do love nature and try to make it a point to routinely stroll outside and “smell the roses”, sorta speak. Quality star-gazing is one the perks of living outside the city lights and it’s been wonderful lately. Some might say the early blooming daffodils at the edge of our woods aren’t too bright, yet they brighten my morning. And when a wren landed on a fence within arm’s reach of me, I could swear we were communicating. After about 20 seconds, I gently told it to “Go get a drink” at the nearby bird bath and it gracefully abided.

I don’t worship God at church. For I’ve attended countless times throughout my life, but have never been closer to Him than when outside in His garden. I was raised with an image of God as a suffering Christ hung on a cross. The image I have now is in the sun shinning through the trees and the smile of a young child. In rain and in warmth. In a wren. I am truly blessed and sincerely humbled in His awe.
