Is Drew that good, or his enemies that desperate?

December 20th, 2007

Unbelievable! That popular Oklahoma Attorney General do-gooder, Drew Edmondson, did it again! He gets bull… I mean chickenshit thrown at him left and right, high and low, yet he always comes out clean. But maybe he met his match jackin’ with Christmas. As tells it:

Oklahoma Atty Gen. Drew Edmondson has issued an advisory opinion from the Attorney General’s Office directing universities and public employees in Oklahoma to refrain from using or writing the word “Christmas.”

Now that is bad! And Mark Tapscott confirms it.

I am not making this up (because I am from Oklahoma and this guy is an embarrassment).

Edmondson issued an advisory opinion to officials at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford advising them that the word “Christmas” should not be spoken by any employee of the state school, not written in any official holiday decorations.

But for some reason, nobody else is as sure. Good story though. Except that, so far, it seems it isn’t true. But you can bet there’s plenty more where that came from.

Oklahoma City leaders on the ball

December 20th, 2007

I believe it’s always good to be prepared.

Oklahoma City voters will be asked to approve funding for improvements to the Ford Center at a March 4 election to bring the arena up to NBA standards, city officials said today.

Then again, if a team doesn’t arrive until 2011, the arena will be out-dated and have to be refurbished yet again.

UAW bosses may endorse GOP presidential candidate

December 20th, 2007

It begins with this:

UAW won’t endorse any presidential candidate

“There’s a healthy diversity of opinion among UAW members as to which candidate can most effectively challenge the special interests who want to capture our government on behalf of the wealthy and the privileged,” UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said in a statement.

Yes indeed, that is a dilemma. It used to be easier when only Democrats were considered for UAW endorsement, but now, evidently, a Republican has a slim chance.

We’ll have a number of candidates to choose from — especially on the Democratic side — who are listening and responding to the concerns of working Americans.

So it is written by the Union Bosses:

As a result of the “no endorsement” position taken by the International Executive Board, UAW local unions, retiree chapters, Community Action Program (CAP) councils and other bodies will not be endorsing presidential candidates at this time.

Then again, perhaps that barn door was shut a little too late. Just one month ago:

Obama wins UAW endorsement that includes Iowa

Just ahead of a presidential debate here, Sen. Barack Obama has won the backing of United Auto Workers in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The vote wasn’t even close either – 65% for Obama. It would seem Edwards really got screwed. Although…

John Edwards won twice as many Iowa locals as Obama did.

Now won’t those UAW members feel silly if the Union’s Executive Board ends up endorsing a Republican?

And as far as Car and Driver endorsing Obama, forget it.

What a dirty politician! Barack Obama, Illinois senator and presidential hopeful, comes to Detroit and blasts automakers about the need to build more-fuel-efficient cars and then drives off in his personal Chrysler 300C?

Senator Obama’s 340 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque might help him scurry away from life-threatening scares quicker than a two-pound chimp shot out of a cannon, but every time he starts that V-8, he’s choking dolphins and using the corpses to club baby seals. The scoundrel, the hypocrite, the…the…the liar.

No wonder Obama appeals to Republicans too.

Lend me an ear

December 20th, 2007

I believe the so-called mortgage crisis in America is really no crisis at all. And I offer some collective wisdom of the ages to prove it.

Home foreclosures? Not so bad.

You can never go home again, but the truth is you can never leave home, so it’s all right. – Maya Angelou

Predatory lending practices? Like it’s something new. We are, after all, a nation of capitalist Christians.

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. – Bible

Inflated home prices? Put it in context.

To gain that which is worth having, it may be necessary to lose everything else. – Bernadette Devlin

Financial losses by investment institutions? Builds character.

The real measure of your wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all your money. – Anon

As both a homeowner and investor, I see nothing but opportunity.

The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word ‘crisis.’ One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger – but recognize the opportunity. – Richard M. Nixon

THE Chinese Government has brilliantly exploited the greed inspired US sub-prime crisis

China Investment Corp (CIC), the nation’s state-owned forex investment firm, said late Wednesday that it has agreed to invest $5 billion in the No 2 US investment bank Morgan Stanley.

China Investment Corp., formally established in September 2007, was created by the Chinese government to invest a portion of its $1.4 trillion in currency reserves. It is a state-controlled sovereign wealth fund.

It must be karma. Americans send hundreds of billions to China via trade deficits yearly and they send some of it back. And some people say communism is dumb.

Be happy

December 19th, 2007

Hello from Oklahoma. My name is Herman and I will be writing for this blog while the previous author, Mike, takes some unscheduled time off. I am told Mike is doing better now that he is medicated. Mike claims he only found out how screwed up he was after taking a bunch of Online Psychological Tests.

Being new to the world of blogging, I’ve been spending time reviewing the archives here and visiting other blogs on Okiedoke’s list of Okie Blogs. Wow, I’ve never seen such a bunch of whiners, curmudgeons and pisspots in one place. And Okiedoke is the worst! Well, I’m here to change things.

It’s easy to find fault and criticize, but I believe I am above that. You see, I am a believer; I believe in belief. If you believe you are happy, you will be happy. It’s not that hard.

Every man prefers belief to the exercise of judgment. – Seneca

Therefore, you don’t have to actually be happy to feel that way. In fact, a desire to be happy may be a hindrance.

You can never get enough of what you don’t need to make you happy. – Eric Hoffer

Think I’m crazy? Then I’m on the right track.

Sanity and happiness are an impossible combination. – Mark Twain

So join me as I chronicle why Oklahoma should be one of the happiest places on earth.

News Release: Little Axe, Oklahoma

In response to a debilitating labor stoppage, announced today that it has added new writer, Herman, to its corporate staff. Herman’s only job will be writing for the company’s Oklahoma populist blog, Okiedoke.

The blog’s current writer, Mike, has been placed on disciplinary leave for an undetermined amount of time. regrets this action, but Mike has published only one blog post since his submission of new contract demands to us in November. (And he was pressured to do that.) is willing to continue negotiations with Mike for his blogging work. However, his demand for selling Okiedoke archives on DVD is unacceptable. is a no-profit global company producing websites of limited interest to clients from around the world since 2002.

Just wondering…

Should I feel odd that I enjoy Sooner basketball more than Sooner football?

The current benefit/cost ratio of upgrading from a 36″ CRT television to a 42″ 1080p TV using high-definition satellite is not that great. In fact, it may be negative.

What does it mean that I’ve had a beard for 35 years and only considered shaving it off a few times?

Is it good or bad for Hillary Clinton that she supported invading Iraq from the very beginning, when Bill says he didn’t?

I can see why people like Mike Huckabee, but what’s so appealing about Rudy Giuliani?

If dogs do indeed smile, they must laugh too. So, are they laughing with us or at us?

I’m not sure what I like more: individuals, or people in general.

Why does Oklahoma City like to pay the added cost of bond financing to maintain its existing infrastructure rather than pay as it goes?

Am I a sucker for having paid Oklahoma sales tax on Internet purchases?

Oklahomans are in fact supposed to declare their online purchases on their taxes. It’s right there on the state tax form under the “Oklahoma Use Tax” heading,

But it’s all on the honor system — for now.
[-Paula Ross, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Tax Commission]

What’s a good way to end this post?
